Mock draft season is well underway. In a few weeks, the Green Bay Packers will have the opportunity to make two first-round selections, unless they choose to trade.
Wide receiver is easily the team’s biggest need. Will they finally add a pass-catcher in the opening round?
Many mock drafts believe so. In this mock draft roundup, a common theme is the Packers landing one of the top receivers in the class at No. 22 overall.
NFL Mocks
Treylon Burks, WR, Arkansas and Tyler Smith, OL, Tulsa
In this mock draft by A.J. Fagerlin of NFL Mocks, the Packers find their potential future WR1 in Arkansas’ Treylon Burks. They then get the offensive line some help with Tulsa’s Tyler Smith at No. 28 overall.
Burks could be a future star at WR, while Smith can line up at either guard or tackle. Hard not to like these picks.
NFL Spin Zone
Jahan Dotson, WR, Penn State and Devin Lloyd, LB, Utah
Randy Gurzi of NFL Spin Zone also has Green Bay going wide receiver in the first round, this time with Penn State’s Jahan Dotson. NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah noted that “Dotson is ready to make an immediate impact for his drafting team”, which is exactly what the Packers need.
Devin Lloyd is one of the best defensive players in the entire class so it would be incredible value to land him at No. 28. Put Lloyd next to All-Pro De’Vondre Campbell and the Packers could have a phenomenal starting duo at inside linebacker.
The Draft Network
Chris Olave, WR, Ohio State and Boye Mafe, EDGE, Minnesota
If Green Bay leaves the first round with a wide receiver and edge rusher, it could be an excellent start. That’s how The Draft Network’s Joe Marino sees it playing out.
Ohio State’s Chris Olave is possibly the most popular choice among Packers fans, and understandably so. With his speed, route-running, and ability to hurt defenses deep, he would be a great addition to Matt LaFleur’s offense.
Boye Mafe would strengthen the pass rush, another big area of need. As Marino noted, “Mafe has elite physical gifts and was dominant at the Senior Bowl”.
CBS Sports
Treylon Burks, WR, Arkansas and Chris Olave, WR, Ohio State
Now this would be fun. Burks and Olave would be a perfect complement for each other. Burks is a physical wide receiver, while Olave would add speed to the Packers’ offense. Together, they could become a dominant receiving duo in Green Bay. I love this mock draft by Ryan Wilson of CBS Sports.
Pro Football Focus
Christian Watson, WR, North Dakota State and Boye Mafe, EDGE, Minnesota
One of the best athletes in the class, it’s entirely possible Christian Watson will be a first-rounder. You won’t hear any complaints from me if he’s the Packers’ top pick, as this mock draft by PFF’s Anthony Treash has it playing out. After finding their future top receiver, the Packers add Mafe to strengthen the pass rush.
