Green Bay Packers’ offensive brain power is increasing

Earlier this offseason, the Green Bay Packers lost two key offensive coaches.

Former offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett is now the head coach of the Denver Broncos. Former quarterbacks coach Luke Getsy is now the offensive coordinator of the Chicago Bears. However, head coach Matt LaFleur had a plan to replace those key cogs.

Promote run-game coordinator/offensive line coach Adam Stenavich to offensive coordinator. Hire back former Packers offensive assistant Tom Clements.

Hackett and Getsy helped Green Bay’s offense become one of the best in the league over their time working under LaFleur. But especially with the promotion of Stenavich, who will be entering his fourth season in Green Bay and knows the system as well as Hackett and Getsy, this offense should not miss a beat.

The addition of an old friend in Clements is intriguing as well. Clements, whose connection with Aaron Rodgers goes back well over a decade, could bring in some old concepts from the West Coast offense the Packers ran during Mike McCarthy’s tenure.

Remember, Clements helped Aaron Rodgers become an MVP, Super Bowl champion, and future first-ballot Hall-of-Famer. This Green Bay offense is going to rise to a whole new level because they keep that familiarity with Stenavich becoming the new OC but also can create new concepts with Clements becoming the QB coach again.

Packers coaches, players, front-office executives, and fans alike will miss Hackett and Getsy. They brought a positive, exciting influence to the franchise. It was Hackett’s “I love gold” Austin Powers mantra that brought some humor and juice to the offense. Rodgers has referred to Getsy as almost an older brother despite the fact that Rodgers is older. It will hurt not seeing those people in the QB and offensive meeting rooms each day.

But with LaFleur, who should have multiple Coach of the Year awards, Stenavich, who has made this Packers rushing attack arguably the best in the game, and Clements, who knows Rodgers and the Packers organization as well as anybody, this offense is in fantastic hands.

Once this team finds its key receivers via free agency or this month’s draft, look out.
