Round 2 (53): George Pickens, WR, Georgia

Brian Gutekunst has doubled-down at positions of need in the past. He should do the same at wide receiver this year. Again, predicting where George Pickens will be drafted isn’t easy. Some view him as a first-rounder, others a second-round pick. A “dream” scenario would see him falling to Green Bay at No. 53 overall.

Pickens is a great athlete. He has an RAS of 9.33 out of 10. Sense a theme here? He also has the size Gutekunst tends to like at wide receiver. Pickens is 6-foot-3.

Gutekunst drafted Marquez Valdes-Scantling (6-foot-4), Equanimeous St. Brown (6-foot-5), and J’Mon Moore (6-foot-3). The only exception was Amari Rodgers (5-foot-9).

The Packers also love physicality from their wide receivers. Pickens provides plenty of that. Blocking is an essential part of the job for receivers in Matt LaFleur’s offense. They wouldn’t have to worry about Pickens’ blocking ability.

It’s somewhat surprising Pickens isn’t higher on draft boards. Well, in mock drafts, at least. We won’t know how NFL teams view him until draft day.

A torn ACL could be partly to blame for that, limiting him to just four games after his return in 2021.

But Pickens has all the tools to become an excellent NFL wide receiver, and he would be a perfect fit in LaFleur’s offense.
