With Aaron Rodgers signing a new deal, should the Green Bay Packers consider trading Jordan Love?

As of yet, there have been no signs of this becoming a reality. But with Rodgers possibly spending another few seasons in Green Bay, would it be a smart move to trade Love now?

Will the Packers make any moves at QB in the draft?

Free agency recap

Aaron Rodgers took some time to decide on his future this offseason, before agreeing to return to Green Bay on a new deal, one that could mean he finishes his career with the Packers.

Need in the draft?

No.

As things stand, the Packers’ quarterback room is set with Rodgers, Love, and Kurt Benkert. The only way it would become a position of need is if Green Bay moved on from Love.

Draft outlook

Currently, it doesn’t seem Green Bay has any plans to trade Love. But what if a team in need of a QB offered a Day 2 draft pick? Would a team like the Houston Texans be willing to trade a pick for Love? Love was a first-rounder in 2020 and is a talented player. Maybe with an opportunity, he could become a good starter.

The Packers are in a tough position with Love. If Rodgers plays another two seasons in Green Bay, Love would become a free agent without ever getting an opportunity to win the QB1 job.

So, what’s the best move? Keep Love as the backup and continue to develop him? Or look for a trade partner? In that scenario, Green Bay may need to draft another quarterback to develop in the later rounds, or sign a free agent.

Lombardi Ave’s Timothy Lindsey looked at the possibility of the Packers trading Love to the Seattle Seahawks. If a team like Seattle showed interest in Love, it could make sense for Green Bay to make a deal.

Will it happen? For now, it seems unlikely. But it’s been a crazy offseason in the NFL. Anything can happen.
