Packers trade down with Jets

After trading away their pick at No. 22, the Packers hit the clock again at No. 28. And the same result.

Green Bay makes a deal with the New York Jets, allowing the AFC East team to jump back into the first round. This gives the Jets the fifth-year option that comes with Day 1 picks.

The Packers also get a good deal, receiving two fourth-rounders in the trade.

Don’t forget, they still have the No. 29 selection from the Chiefs to come, so the Packers will still pick in the first round. But by moving down twice, Green Bay swaps the No. 22 and No. 28 pick for the No. 29 selection and three bonus picks in the opening four rounds. Not bad business.

With a first-rounder, three second-rounders, two third-rounders, and four fourth-rounders, Brian Gutekunst has all the resources he needs should he wish to trade up later on. Spoiler: Green Bay does just that in this mock draft.

Even if the Packers didn’t use those bonus picks to move up, they would have several good draft picks to address positions of need. With more swings of the bat, the greater the odds to hit a home run.

Finally, after two trades, it’s time for the Packers to make a pick.
