Could Deebo Samuel to the Green Bay Packers really happen?

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the All-Pro wide receiver has requested a trade from the San Francisco 49ers.

Rapoport listed some of “the teams to consider as the trade market for Deebo Samuel heats up”. Among them are the Packers, as well as the New York Jets, Kansas City Chiefs, and Detroit Lions.

There’s little doubt that Samuel would be a huge addition for a Packers offense in desperate need of help at wide receiver.

Last season, Samuel caught 77 passes for 1,405 yards and six touchdowns. He also rushed for 365 yards and eight touchdowns. Samuel is one of the best offensive playmakers in the entire league, whether he’s lined up at receiver or in the backfield.

Would the Packers love to have Samuel? No doubt.

Would they be able to pay what the 49ers want and give Samuel the contract he wants? Would San Francisco even consider trading Samuel to another NFC contender?

Should Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst be on the phone to the 49ers? Absolutely.

The 49ers don’t need to trade Samuel this offseason. He is still under contract for another year.

However, Samuel becomes a free agent in 2023.

We saw two other star wide receivers — Davante Adams and Tyreek Hill — get their wish of being traded away this offseason.

Adams was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders. The Chiefs traded Hill to the Miami Dolphins.

Could Samuel become the latest star player to be traded by a contender? And is there any way he ends up with the Green Bay Packers?
