Round 3 (92): Drake Jackson, EDGE, USC

It wouldn’t be surprising if the Packers used a first-round pick on an edge rusher. It’s that important to add depth to the position to give Rashan Gary and Preston Smith some help.

If they cannot land one of the top pass rushers early on, a player like USC’s Drake Jackson could come into play on Day 2.

Jackson still has areas to improve his game, but he would enter a great situation as the No. 3 edge rusher behind Gary and Smith. He also has the potential to become an excellent player.

The USC pass rusher is a good athlete and only turned 21 years old a couple of weeks ago. His best football is ahead of him.

Green Bay desperately needs to improve its pass-rush depth, and Jackson would help with that. In 10 games for USC last season, Jackson made five sacks and eight tackles for loss. He also made an interception.

There’s no doubt that Jackson needs some time to develop in the NFL. But the same was true of Rashan Gary. Jackson could help the Packers’ pass rush immediately as a backup to Gary and Smith.

In this mock draft, the Packers land a potential future All-Pro at safety, double-down at wide receiver, then add some depth to the pass rush.
