Packers 2022 NFL 7-round mock drafts decided by a computer simulation
Packers seven-round mock draft #2
Round 1 (22): Kaiir Elam, CB, Florida
There’s no doubting Kaiir Elam’s talent and potential to be an excellent starting cornerback, but he would likely begin his career as the CB4 in Green Bay. The Packers have an All-Pro in Jaire Alexander, drafted Eric Stokes in the first round a year ago, and just paid Rasul Douglas.
You can never have enough good cornerbacks, but it’s hard to see the Packers drafting Elam on Day 1.
Round 1 (28): Nakobe Dean, LB, Georgia
The Packers did just pay All-Pro De’Vondre Campbell, but it might be tough to pass up the chance to draft Nakobe Dean if he falls this far. Dean has Pro Bowl potential and can be the perfect partner for Campbell.
Round 2 (53) David Ojabo, EDGE, Michigan
Again, if David Ojabo falls this far, it may be tough to not pick him. He would be a first-round lock if not for an injury that will likely keep him out his entire rookie season.
For a win-now team, could the Packers afford to use a top pick on a player who might not play at all in year one?
Round 2 (59): Alec Pierce, WR, Cincinnati
Finally, some wide receiver help. Alec Pierce would be a great fit in Green Bay’s offense. He has the combination of size, speed, and athleticism the Packers love.
Round 3 (92): Joshua Ezeudu, OT, North Carolina
Joshua Ezeudu can play tackle and guard and would provide some much-needed depth along the offensive line after the Packers lost Billy Turner and Lucas Patrick.
Round 4 (132): Jesse Luketa, EDGE, Penn State
Some depth behind Rashan Gary and Preston Smith is needed. Lance Zierlein of NFL.com wrote that Jesse Luketa can be a “good backup or low-end starter with the ability to shine on special teams as early as his rookie season.”
Round 4 (140): TRADE
The simulator has Green Bay trading down twice for additional Day 3 picks.
Round 5 (168): Matt Araiza, P, San Diego State
Matt Araiza is a talented punter and should get drafted, but the Packers recently signed veteran Pat O’Donnell.
Round 5 (171): Hassan Haskins, RB, Michigan
Round 6 (185): Kolby Harvell-Peel, S, Oklahoma State
Round 6 (219): Sincere McCormick, RB, UTSA
Round 7 (228): Jerreth Sterns, WR, Western Kentucky
Round 7 (231): Mike Rose, LB, Iowa State
Round 7 (249): Velus Jones Jr., WR, Tennessee
Great value here in the seventh round. Velus Jones Jr. could go as high as the fourth round. He ran a 4.31-second 40-yard dash. Jones is a good deep threat and also can return kicks and punts.
Round 7 (258): Joey Blount, S, Virginia
Overall grade: C-
The Packers do add a lot of talent with their top three picks but fail to address their biggest areas of need early on. Kaiir Elam and Nakobe Dean would be backups in 2022, and David Ojabo could miss the entire season.
Alec Pierce and Velus Jones Jr. are solid additions at wide receiver. The Packers do get some pass-rush and offensive line depth, too.
