Packers seven-round mock draft #4

Round 1 (22): George Karlaftis, EDGE, Purdue

Like in the previous mock, it’s hard not to love this pick at No. 22. George Karlaftis is everything the Packers need at edge rusher. He can be an excellent starter in the future, but in the short term, he gets to learn from Rashan Gary and Preston Smith as a backup.

Round 1 (28): TRADE

The simulator has the Packers trading down with the Houston Texans, receiving the No. 37 and No. 68 picks in return.

Round 2 (37): Tyler Smith, OT, Tulsa

Solid pick here. Tyler Smith could be a first-rounder. With his ability to play multiple positions, the Packers get some much-needed depth.

Round 2 (53): TRADE

Another trade-down here, with the Packers receiving the No. 69, No. 111, and No. 163 picks from the New York Jets.

Round 2 (59): Jalen Tolbert, WR, South Alabama

I love Jalen Tolbert. He would be a great fit in Matt LaFleur’s offense. He is a good route-runner, has excellent athleticism and size, and can make an instant impact.

Round 3 (68): DeMarvin Leal, DT, Texas A&M

Another great pick. DeMarvin Leal would complete an ascending defensive line in Green Bay. Leal would help the Packers’ pass rush. He made 8.5 sacks at Texas A&M last season.

Round 3 (69): Brandon Smith, LB, Penn State

A phenomenal athlete and a linebacker for the Packers to develop. This pick is all about upside.

Round 3 (92): Zyon McCollum, CB, Sam Houston State

Another great athlete. Zyon McCollum has an RAS of 10 out of 10. He ran a 4.33-second 40-yard dash.

McCollum made three interceptions last season. He is an athletic corner for the Packers to develop, and he can contribute on special teams early on.

Round 4 (111): Kaleb Eleby, QB, Western Michigan

Round 4 (132): Alontae Taylor, CB, Tennessee

Round 4 (140): Leon O’Neal Jr., S, Texas A&M

Round 5 (163): Matt Araiza, P, San Diego State

Round 5 (171): Abram Smith, RB, Baylor

Round 7 (228): Jack Coan, QB, Notre Dame

Round 7 (249): Aqeel Glass, QB, Alabama A&M

Round 7 (258): Christopher Allen, EDGE, Alabama

Overall grade: B

There’s a lot to like about this mock. The Packers get a top edge rusher, early-round talent along the offensive and defensive lines, and a wide receiver who can contribute early on.

However, drafting three quarterbacks is, well, not going to happen. The Packers likely won’t draft a punter, either.

If the mock had Green Bay adding another receiver instead of trying to draft seemingly every quarterback in the class, this grade could’ve been higher. But if we focus just on the early rounds, it’s a solid class.
