Green Bay Packers: ‘No chance’ Darren Waller gets traded
Will Darren Waller get traded to the Green Bay Packers?
Cheesehead TV’s Aaron Nagler reported on Monday that the Packers are targeting Waller in a trade.
It would be exactly the type of big move the Packers need to make on offense having lost Davante Adams and Marquez Valdes-Scantling earlier this offseason.
However, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported today that he was told there is “no chance” of a Waller trade.
The good news is that we will know soon enough. If a deal is going to be made for the Pro Bowl tight end, we can assume it would include a 2022 draft selection.
With the draft taking place later this week, we will know in the coming days whether the Packers are, in fact, able to make a deal with the Las Vegas Raiders.
A move for Waller would make so much sense for Green Bay.
Not only is he one of the best tight ends in the league with two 1,000-yard seasons since 2019, but he is also on an affordable contract.
According to Spotrac, Waller’s cap hit this season is $6.84 million, then $7 million in 2023. Maybe Waller would want a new deal if he’s traded, so those figures could change.
However, the big question now is whether the Packers do actually trade for Waller.
Just because they have interest, it doesn’t mean they will be able to get an agreement over the line. The prospect of Derek Carr getting to throw to Waller and Davante Adams must be exciting for the Raiders.
On the flip side, Las Vegas doesn’t own a draft pick until No. 86 overall, which is midway through the third round. The Raiders sent their picks in the opening two rounds to the Packers for Adams.
Trading Waller would land them an earlier pick or two, most likely.
Will it happen? Soon, we will know.
