Happy draft day. It feels like Christmas morning. Tonight, the Green Bay Packers are scheduled to make two picks in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

It’s important to use the word ‘scheduled’ as Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst loves a draft-day trade.

In his four draft classes, Gutekunst has made five first-round picks. He traded up for three of them.

Will Gutey trade up again tonight? Maybe he’ll move down.

Let’s look at the picks he currently has to work with entering the 2022 NFL Draft.

Packers 2022 NFL Draft order

  • Round 1 — No. 22 overall (from Las Vegas Raiders)
  • Round 1 — No. 28
  • Round 2 — No. 53 (from Las Vegas Raiders)
  • Round 2 — No. 59
  • Round 3 — No. 92
  • Round 4 — No. 132
  • Round 4 — No. 140
  • Round 5 — No. 171
  • Round 7 — No. 228 (from Chicago Bears via Houston Texans)
  • Round 7 — No. 249
  • Round 7 — No. 258

What makes this draft so interesting is that the Packers own four picks inside the top 59 (two first-rounders, two second-rounders).

If Gutekunst doesn’t make a single trade, that’s four premium draft picks to add talent to the roster.

DRAFT: Predicting who the Packers will pick with both first-round selections

However, those bonus picks add some flexibility. Should Gutekunst wish, and he can find a trade partner, he could package both first-rounders and move as high as the top 10.

The opposite choice would be to take one of the first-rounders and trade out of Day 1. Doing so could bring back multiple Day 2 or 3 picks.

Perhaps Green Bay will use one of its first-rounders on a wide receiver or offensive lineman, two areas of need.

It also wouldn’t be surprising if Gutekunst decided to wait until Day 2 for help on offense, instead focusing on defensive needs like edge rusher, defensive tackle, or safety early on.

Tonight, we find out. Who do you think the Packers will pick in the first round?
