The Green Bay Packers‘ recent track record in the third round isn’t particularly impressive. They will be hoping UCLA offensive lineman Sean Rhyan puts an end to that.

Green Bay needed to add offensive line depth this offseason after releasing right tackle Billy Turner and losing guard/center Lucas Patrick in free agency.

Rhyan offers versatility. He played at tackle for UCLA but could fit best at guard in the NFL. He will be able to compete for a starting job early on in the Packers’ offense.

Another pick, another great athlete for the Packers.

As an offensive tackle, his Relative Athletic Score is 8.18 out of 10, which is excellent. However, Rhyan will likely shift to guard in the NFL. For a guard, his RAS is 9.35 out of 10. Phenomenal.

According to Pro Football Focus, Rhyan has allowed one sack since 2020.

General manager Brian Gutekunst loves versatility from his offensive linemen.

Elgton Jenkins can play all five positions. Royce Newman has experience at tackle but was a starting guard last season. Billy Turner played at guard and tackle while he was in Green Bay.

Rhyan offers similar versatility. While many draft analysts believe he will be best suited to guard in the NFL, Gutekunst thinks he can also play tackle, according to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Gutekunst understands the importance of restocking offensive line depth each year. That’s especially true this offseason after losing Turner and Patrick.

If Rhyan best fits at guard, he can compete with Newman for a starting job early on. If the Packers believe he can play at tackle, perhaps he will compete with Yosh Nijman for the right tackle job until Jenkins returns.

Either way, the Packers have added talent to their offensive line with Rhyan. He provides versatility and can be a starting lineman in Green Bay.
