3 free agents Packers should sign following 2022 NFL Draft
2. Odell Beckham, WR
The offseason has seen significant changes at wide receiver for the Packers.
Davante Adams, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, and Equanimeous St. Brown are gone, replaced by Sammy Watkins, Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, and Samori Toure.
Watson’s talent and potential could make him a future WR1. Doubs can also become a key contributor in Green Bay’s offense.
However, this may take some time.
Odell Beckham Jr. won’t be ready in Week 1 and he could miss most of the regular season. But if he’s ready to return from injury in time for the playoffs, it could make a lot of sense to bring him in.
The Packers are in win-now mode. They are strong favorites to retain their NFC North title and make it back to the postseason.
That’s when they must play their best football. Beckham can be a difference-maker in the playoffs. It doesn’t matter if he’s not available in September. If he can help the team in January, signing him would make sense.
OBJ did exactly that for the Los Angeles Rams this past January. He caught nine passes for 113 yards in the NFC Championship Game and was on his way to a huge performance in the Super Bowl before getting injured. Beckham made two receptions for 52 yards and a touchdown.
Beckham would be a signing for late in the season. He could be a difference-maker in the playoffs.
