Packers 2022 post-draft position review: Quarterbacks
It sure feels nice to enter this summer without the quarterback uncertainty of a year ago. Aaron Rodgers returns to the Green Bay Packers in 2022.
The back-to-back MVP will again be key to the Packers’ Super Bowl dreams this season.
Green Bay’s quarterback room will have some continuity this year.
Currently on the roster
Aaron Rodgers, Jordan Love, Kurt Benkert, Danny Etling
Offseason moves
What’s more notable for the Packers at quarterback is the moves they didn’t make.
Rodgers took some time to decide his future. His eventual decision was to return to Green Bay, signing a new deal that likely means he will finish his career here.
Even with Rodgers back for the foreseeable future, the Packers didn’t trade former first-round pick Jordan Love during the 2022 NFL Draft.
Improved from 2021?
No, but that’s not a bad thing.
Green Bay didn’t need to improve its quarterback room. It is getting back its four-time MVP, while Jordan Love enters year three.
Continuity is a good thing here.
Key player
Aaron Rodgers.
Can he make it back-to-back-to-back MVP awards?
Position outlook
While there isn’t any uncertainty over Rodgers’ short-term future as he’s back on a new deal, there are questions about Green Bay’s offense overall.
Rodgers has lost his top target in Davante Adams. Two other trusted wide receivers, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Equanimeous St. Brown, are also on new teams in 2022.
The Packers did draft Christian Watson in the second round and Romeo Doubs in the fourth. Both receivers are talented with a ton of potential. Green Bay also signed Sammy Watkins in free agency.
However, it will take time for Rodgers to build a connection with his new receivers.
Without a true WR1, at least for now, the Packers will need Rodgers to be at his MVP best to keep this offense rolling in 2022.
