Week 9: at Detroit Lions

For some reason, Ford Field is always a challenging place for the Packers to get a win at. Even when the Detroit Lions finish with one of the NFL’s worst records, they give Green Bay a tough game at home.

Matt LaFleur is 2-1 in games at Ford Field. It’s worth noting that the one loss came with the No. 1 seed wrapped up. Jordan Love and the backups played most of the game.

However, the two victories were anything but convincing. The Packers needed a walk-off field goal to get past the Lions in 2019. One touchdown was the difference in 2020.

Since 2013, the Packers are 4-5 at Ford Field.

This Lions team is more talented than in recent years, especially on the offensive side of the ball.

They have invested heavily along the offensive line, a smart move for a rebuilding team. Detroit could also have a top-five wide receiver corps with Jameson Williams, Amon-Ra St. Brown, and D.J. Chark. And don’t forget about tight end T.J. Hockenson.

Detroit’s defense is still a work in progress, but the home crowd could make the difference in this game.

The Packers often struggle to find rhythm at Ford Field. They have gotten away with it at times, but not this season. The Lions get an impressive win.

Prediction: Detroit 23, Green Bay 20 (6-3)
