With Davante Adams no longer on the roster, the Green Bay Packers need their new-look wide receiver corps to step up this season.

A player who will be a big part of that is rookie Christian Watson, who the Packers traded up to select 34th overall in last month’s draft.

ESPN’s Mike Tannenbaum, who is a former New York Jets general manager, expects big things from Watson.

In the article, ESPN analysts made their bold predictions for the rookie class.

Tannenbaum wrote that “Christian Watson will be the breakout star of this WR group and make Packers fans quickly forget about Davante Adams.”

Talk about high praise.

He added that the Packers’ second-round pick “will become a top difference-making receiver by the end of September.”

Green Bay certainly hopes so.

There is a lot to love about Watson’s potential.

The 6-foot-4, 208-pound receiver has great size but also incredible speed, having run a 4.36-second 40-yard dash.

He is also one of the best athletes in the class. Watson’s Relative Athletic Score is 9.96 out of 10.

The Packers are going to need contributions from their entire wide receiver corps to help replace Adams. It’s unlikely any one receiver will be able to replicate Adams’ dominance from the past few seasons.

That said, with Watson’s size, speed, and athleticism, there’s no doubt he can make an impact as a rookie. He also has sky-high potential to eventually become a star WR1 in Green Bay.

Can Watson become the next breakout star at wide receiver? Justin Jefferson and Ja’Marr Chase both had incredible rookie seasons. Could Watson be next?

While that shouldn’t be the expectation, he can certainly contribute as a rookie.

The most important thing is quickly getting on the same page as Aaron Rodgers. Earn Rodgers’ trust and he won’t hesitate to throw your way in key moments.
