Which Packers free agents remain unsigned?

The majority of the Green Bay Packers‘ 2022 free agents have signed, either to stay in Green Bay or to move elsewhere.

Many, like De’Vondre Campbell, Rasul Douglas, and Robert Tonyan, signed new deals with the Packers.

Others, like Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Lucas Patrick, and Equanimeous St. Brown, signed elsewhere.

Which of the Packers’ free agents remain unsigned midway through May?

Kevin King, CB

King has been a solid cornerback throughout his career, when healthy.

That last part is the key, though, as the former second-round pick has missed 30 regular season games in five years. He has never played a full regular season schedule.

His performances have also declined in the past couple of years.

According to Pro Football Reference, his completion percentage allowed went from 58.8% in 2019 to 63.2% in 2020 and 71.4% in 2021.

His passer rating allowed went from 84.6 in 2019 to 96.2 in 2020 and 108.9 in 2021.

Still, what King does offer is experience. And if he can rediscover his best form, he has plenty to offer, even if his ideal role is as a backup. In 2019, King made a team-high five interceptions and 15 pass defenses, and came up with some big plays throughout the season.

Perhaps the Packers would consider re-signing him to a cheap one-year deal as their CB4.

Tyler Lancaster, DT

It seems unlikely Lancaster will be back.

The Packers signed Jarran Reed in free agency, then drafted Devonte Wyatt in the first round and Jonathan Ford in the seventh.

Kenny Clark is a Pro Bowler, Dean Lowry is coming off a career year, and TJ Slaton is entering year two. The Packers have strength and depth along the defensive line.

Lancaster will likely be looking for a new team over the summer.

Whitney Mercilus, EDGE

Mercilus retired from football this past spring. However, if he decides to do a Tom Brady and make a return, the Packers should definitely consider bringing him back.

Henry Black, S

It wouldn’t be all that surprising if the Packers re-signed Black given their need for a third safety. Black’s chances of returning must have improved after the team didn’t draft a safety.

Tariq Carpenter, their sixth-round choice, is set to move to inside linebacker.

Chauncey Rivers, EDGE

Rivers spent most of his time on special teams last season. The Packers drafted Kingsley Enagbare in the fifth round, so there will be fewer opportunities on defense should Rivers return.
