Packers: Three players on notice after the 2022 NFL Draft
Dean Lowry, DT
Dean Lowry is coming off his best season with the Green Bay Packers.
The former fourth-round pick set career highs in sacks (five), quarterback hits (nine), and even pass defenses (four).
According to Spotrac, the Packers could have saved over $4 million by releasing Lowry this offseason. The fact they have chosen not to shows how well he played in 2021. Lowry deserves to remain on the roster.
However, there is no doubting he faces more competition than ever before.
The Packers signed Jarran Reed and drafted Devonte Wyatt in the first round this offseason. Both players have starting potential for Green Bay.
According to Pro Football Reference, Lowry played on 63 percent of the Packers’ defensive snaps last season. He has started every game for the Packers over the past three seasons.
But Lowry will need to match his most recent performances to maintain a significant role in Joe Barry’s defense.
This is arguably Green Bay’s deepest defensive line in many years. That is great news for the team, but Lowry will need to be on top of his game to ensure he remains a starter.
Lowry is entering a contract year. He will need another strong season to ensure he remains a starter along the defensive line and to land a new deal with the Packers before next spring.
