Draft

When Brian Gutekunst looked back over the Packers’ 2022 draft class, he had to be impressed with his work.

Green Bay addressed its biggest need at wide receiver by selecting Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, and Samori Toure, but not before adding two defensive stars in Quay Walker and Devonte Wyatt.

Walker and Wyatt both come from an excellent Georgia defense and have the potential to become instant contributors for the Packers.

Gutekunst’s patience allowed him to focus on other areas first before addressing wide receiver on Day 2. An aggressive trade-up allowed Green Bay to land North Dakota State’s Watson, a potential future star with a rare combination of size, speed, and athleticism.

Green Bay restocked the offensive line depth with Sean Rhyan, Zach Tom, and Rasheed Walker. Would it be a surprise if two of the three win starting jobs in 2022? Absolutely not.

Doubs can develop into a very good player in Matt LaFleur’s offense, while landing edge rusher Kingsley Enagbare in the fifth round could prove to be one of the steals of the draft.

Importantly, Gutekunst also found plenty of special teams contributors, something the Packers desperately need.

We won’t know exactly how good this draft class will be for a few years. Right now, it appears to be a job well done by Gutekunst.
