Do the Packers have the best cornerback duo in the NFL?

You could make a case that the Green Bay Packers have the best cornerback duo trio in the NFL.

Sayre Bedinger of NFL Spin Zone recently ranked the league’s top cornerback duos.

At number one? The Packers.

As Bedinger wrote, you can “almost take your pick between two guys for the other spot alongside Jaire Alexander”.

Whether you pick Eric Stokes or Rasul Douglas, either one forms a dominant cornerback duo next to Alexander.

Stokes and Douglas were both excellent in 2021, playing the majority of the season without Alexander.

According to Pro Football Reference, both Stokes and Douglas allowed 50% or less of passes to be completed in their coverage.

Stokes gave up a passer rating of 71.3, Douglas just 44.5. Stokes had a team-best 14 pass breakups with one interception. Douglas made 13 pass defenses with a team-best five interceptions, two of which were pick-sixes.

Both players had exceptional 2021 seasons. They get Alexander back with them this year.

Now the highest-paid defensive back in the NFL, Alexander is a phenomenal cornerback and one of the best in the league.

In his last fully-healthy season in 2020, he made 13 pass defenses and an interception. According to Pro Football Reference, quarterbacks had a passer rating of just 67.4 throwing his way, and they often opted against going in his direction.

After a dominant year, Alexander was named a second-team All-Pro and voted to the Pro Bowl.

It is hard to disagree with NFL Spin Zone’s rankings.

Stokes and Douglas would form a top-10 cornerback duo. But add in an All-Pro like Alexander, and this can be a truly special group at the cornerback position.

There are, understandably, high expectations for the Packers’ defense this season. A big reason for that is the team’s incredible trio of cornerbacks in Alexander, Stokes, and Douglas.
