Packers have one of NFL’s top running back duos in 2022
The Packers have a dominant running back duo in Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon.
Running the football is essential in Matt LaFleur’s offense. With Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon, the Green Bay Packers have two excellent running backs.
Lou Scataglia of NFL Spin Zone has ranked the league’s top-three running back duos ahead of the 2022 season. At number two is the Packers’ combination of Jones and Dillon.
The only duo ahead of Jones and Dillon is the Cleveland Browns’ pair of Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt.
Jones and Dillon split the carries almost exactly in half last season, with both making the most of their opportunities.
The pair each had over 1,000 yards from scrimmage and combined for 17 total touchdowns.
Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon 2021 stats
Aaron Jones: 1,190 total yards (799 rushing, 391 receiving), 10 total TDs
AJ Dillon: 1,116 total yards (803 rushing, 313 receiving), 7 total TDs
Green Bay is going to lean on these two plenty this year. Aaron Rodgers is entering his age-39 season. There is no better way to protect your quarterback than to run the ball for fun behind an excellent offensive line.
The Packers have the roster and offense to make that happen. With incredible offensive line depth and a dominant running back duo, Green Bay can beat defenses on the ground.
This will be especially important as Rodgers builds chemistry with a new-look wide receiver corps featuring free-agent addition Sammy Watkins and rookies Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, and Samari Toure.
The ability to run the football will help tremendously.
Jones’ explosiveness, home-run ability, and pass-catching complement Dillon’s powerful style perfectly.
Don’t underestimate Dillon’s pass-catching talent, either. He caught 34 passes for 313 yards and two touchdowns in 2021, averaging 9.2 yards per reception. He finished sixth in receiving for the Packers last year.
