Five breakout candidates for the Green Bay Packers in 2022.

The Green Bay Packers are expected to be among the top contenders in the NFC again this season.

That’s in part down to the proven players on the roster like Aaron Rodgers, Jaire Alexander, and Kenny Clark. But it’s also based on potential.

There are many young players on the roster with the potential to make huge contributions this year.

With that in mind, let’s look at five breakout candidates for the Packers.

5. Amari Rodgers

It proved to be a difficult rookie year for Amari Rodgers.

Randall Cobb’s return meant Rodgers’ role on offense was limited — he caught just four passes. He also struggled as the Packers’ punt returner.

Rodgers isn’t the first rookie wide receiver to make a slow start.

Many are writing him off, but that’s a mistake. The Packers traded up to draft him in the third round only a year ago.

Rodgers was excellent after the catch in college. According to Pro Football Focus, his 506 yards after the catch ranked third in college football in 2020. He was Clemson’s leading receiver, catching 77 passes for 1,020 yards and seven touchdowns.

His rookie season in the NFL didn’t go to plan, but Rodgers has been working hard in the offseason.

“He already looks faster and stronger than he ever did,” Packers wide receivers coach Jason Vrable said in May. “He’s in the best shape of his life.”

Vrable added that Rodgers’ “route-running is already cleaner and crisper”.

While the focus will go on rookies Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs, and understandably so, don’t forget about Amari Rodgers. He will have learned a lot from his first season and will improve entering year two.
