5 underrated moves the Packers made in 2022 offseason
Drafting Romeo Doubs in the fourth round
Fourth-round pick Romeo Doubs will likely have a limited role in his rookie season. As he develops his game, the experienced trio of Allen Lazard, Sammy Watkins, and Randall Cobb will likely sit atop the depth chart. Next in line will probably be second-round pick Christian Watson.
However, long term, Doubs can become a key contributor in the Packers’ offense.
Anthony Treash of Pro Football Focus believes Doubs could take on some of Marquez Valdes-Scantling’s deep targets in 2022, noting that his 15 deep receiving touchdowns led college football over the past two seasons.
While Doubs’ ability to make plays deep downfield could be how he initially makes his biggest impact in Matt LaFleur’s offense, Brandon Carwile of Packers Wire believes his ceiling is high:
"“Doubs is still a rookie and a fourth-rounder at that. The bar is subsequently low, but fans should be excited about his ceiling. Doubs is a legitimate deep threat with the tools to be much more.”"
Doubs will wear the famous No. 87 jersey in Green Bay. Perhaps he can become the next great Packers receiver with that number.
Since the start of 2020, Doubs caught 138 passes for 2,111 yards and 20 touchdowns at Nevada. Can he translate this success into production in the NFL?
Like any young wide receiver, it may take time for Doubs. While his role may be limited initially, Doubs can become an excellent WR2 for the Packers in time. I’m excited to see him alongside Christian Watson.
