Packers: Predicting running back depth chart in 2022 season
A competition to watch at Green Bay Packers training camp comes at running back.
The top two spots are set. Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon will again take on the bulk of the carries for the Packers this season.
But it will be interesting to see which running back wins the number three job, and also whether the Packers keep three or four running backs on their 53-man roster.
Here are my depth chart predictions for the Packers at running back:
Packers RB depth chart predictions in 2022
- Aaron Jones
- AJ Dillon
- Kylin Hill
Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon complement each other perfectly in Matt LaFleur’s offense. The pair each had over 1,000 yards from scrimmage in 2021 and will look to build on that this season.
With Green Bay trading Davante Adams and losing Marquez Valdes-Scantling in free agency, it will be interesting to see if the Packers become a more run-heavy team.
In that case, they may decide to keep four running backs on the 53-man roster for additional depth.
Whether they go with three or four running backs on the 53, there will be competition to be the top backup behind Jones and Dillon.
I have them going with Kylin Hill, if he’s healthy. Hill made the 53-man roster last summer as Green Bay’s number three running back, and he also returned kicks.
Once he returns from a torn ACL, I expect him to take on that role again.
There will be competition from Patrick Taylor and rookie Tyler Goodson, but I’m going with Hill once he is cleared to return from injury. He was impressive last summer and deservedly won the number three spot before a knee injury ended his season.
But this should be an exciting training camp battle to watch.
