7. WR Romeo Doubs
A player that could surprise people at training camp is wide receiver Romeo Doubs, the Packers’ fourth-round pick in April.
Doubs could eventually prove to be one of the steals of the entire 2022 NFL Draft after he fell to the fourth round.
Competition will be tough at wide receiver this summer, and Doubs will need to impress to overtake veterans Allen Lazard, Sammy Watkins, and Randall Cobb on the depth chart. In time, Doubs can become a key starter in Matt LaFleur’s offense.
But even in his rookie year, Doubs can contribute.
Anthony Treash of Pro Football Focus named Doubs among the Day 3 draft picks in the best position to produce in 2022, noting that he “led college football in deep receiving touchdowns (15) from 2020 through 2021”.
Treash added that with Marquez Valdes-Scantling gone, Doubs’ deep-threat potential could get him on the field as a rookie.
Doubs will be a work in progress and it may take some time to land a starting job in Matt LaFleur’s offense, but he could be one of the standout performers at camp and surprise a few people.
Given all of the uncertainty for Green Bay at wide receiver, the Packers’ new No. 87 will be a player to watch closely this summer.
