With uncertainty at wide receiver, could the Green Bay Packers turn to free agent Odell Beckham?

Beckham is recovering from a torn ACL he suffered in the Los Angeles Rams’ Super Bowl victory over the Cincinnati Bengals in February. When Beckham will be cleared to return remains to be seen.

In the meantime, the Packers move forward with a top three at wide receiver of Allen Lazard, Sammy Watkins, and Randall Cobb.

The team will hope they can also get contributions from rookies Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, and Samori Toure.

Should the Packers sign Odell Beckham?

Tyler Sullivan of CBS Sports named the best landing spots for each of the top remaining free agents.

Sullivan believes that Green Bay is the best fit for Beckham.

As Sullivan notes in the article, the Packers were interested in signing Beckham last season before he chose the Rams. And that was before they traded away All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams.

Why would it make sense to sign a player coming off a torn ACL?

Sure, Green Bay wouldn’t get the three-time Pro Bowler back in time for Week 1. He likely won’t be ready until the second half of the season, at least.

But that may not be a major issue.

Green Bay has one of the deepest rosters in all of football, one more than good enough to carry them to the postseason for the fourth consecutive year. And it’s in January where Beckham’s impact could be felt the most.

OBJ starred in the postseason for the Rams, making 21 catches for 288 yards and two touchdowns in a little over three games. He caught a touchdown in the Super Bowl and looked on track for a huge game before getting injured.

With his talent and experience, Beckham could be the missing piece the Packers need on offense down the stretch.

For a win-now team, signing Beckham to a one-year deal could make a ton of sense.
