4 big-name free agents the Packers could sign in 2022
Four big-name free agents the Green Bay Packers should consider signing this summer.
The Green Bay Packers enter training camp with one of the most talented rosters in the league.
General manager Brian Gutekunst has done a fine job of getting under the salary cap while maintaining a roster ready to compete.
There are still opportunities to strengthen at various positions of need. Many talented players are still free agents.
Let’s look at four big-name free agents the Packers could consider signing.
S Landon Collins
Landon Collins is a three-time Pro Bowler and former All-Pro. He is also still just 28 years old. However, he remains a free agent.
Collins has started all 94 games he has played in the NFL, and he likely will want a starting job wherever he ends up signing. While the Packers can’t offer that as Adrian Amos and Darnell Savage are their two starters, they do desperately need a third safety.
Defensive coordinator Joe Barry will find ways to get the best players on the field.
Collins struggled last year, which is perhaps the reason he remains unsigned.
But a one-year “prove-it” type contract could suit everybody. Collins gets the chance to show what he can do and land a big new deal next spring, while the Packers get a former Pro Bowler to provide some much-needed safety depth.
Collins has the versatility also to play linebacker. He could be a smart signing by the Packers.
