The Green Bay Packers had one of the league’s best running back duos last season.

Both are back in 2022, and the team also added some competition for the third running back spot behind Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon.

At training camp, the focus won’t be all on the top two running backs, but rather on the competition for roster spots behind them.

Who’s here?

Aaron Jones will lead the Packers’ backfield again this season. His explosiveness makes him an excellent running back between the tackles, but he is also a talented pass-catcher.

He is joined by AJ Dillon, the Packers’ rushing leader a year ago.

Both players put up over 1,000 yards from scrimmage and split the work in the backfield. Their contrasting styles complement each other perfectly, giving the Packers a tremendous 1-2 punch at running back.

Kylin Hill is recovering from a torn ACL but will be aiming to regain his spot as the Packers’ number three running back.

He will face competition from undrafted rookie Tyler Goodson, a player many believe could make the 53-man roster.

Patrick Taylor had an opportunity in the regular season in 2021 as injuries hit the Packers at running back. He will be competing for a roster spot again.

BJ Baylor will also be in the mix at running back.

Expectations

With so many changes at wide receiver this offseason, the Packers may need to lean on Jones and Dillon even more often in 2022.

It will be interesting to see at training camp whether Matt LaFleur gets them on the field together more often. Putting Jones and Dillon out there together could create real problems for opposing defenses.

Behind Jones and Dillon, the running back competition at camp will be must-see.

Who will be the number three running back? Will Green Bay decide to keep four on the roster? There is a lot of talent at the position, which should make for a fascinating training camp battle.
