Packers pre-training camp 53-man roster predictions 2022
Inside linebackers (4)
De’Vondre Campbell, Quay Walker, Krys Barnes, Ty Summers
The difference a year can make.
Last May, the Packers’ top three at inside linebacker were Krys Barnes, Oren Burks, and Kamal Martin. Fast forward just 14 months, and the Packers have De’Vondre Campbell coming off an All-Pro season and a first-round pick in Quay Walker leading the way.
Barnes provided some solid play at inside linebacker over the past couple of years, starting 23 games. He adds great depth.
Ty Summers is a key special teams player for the Packers. Opportunities on defense will be few and far between when everyone is healthy, but he can make a difference on special teams.
Outside linebackers (4)
Rashan Gary, Preston Smith, Kingsley Enagbare, Jonathan Garvin
With Za’Darius Smith gone, Rashan Gary is now the Packers’ number one pass rusher. It’s a role he shined in last season, and the best is still yet to come from the former first-round pick.
Preston Smith enjoyed a bounce-back season in 2021, just missing out on double-digit sacks.
Green Bay did add some depth by drafting Kingsley Enagbare, but the team may opt to bring in a veteran at some point this summer. Pass-rush depth remains a slight concern for the Packers entering the 2022 season.
