Packers: Aaron Rodgers praises Romeo Doubs, Juwann Winfree
If Aaron Rodgers takes time to praise you publicly, you’re probably playing well.
That’s good news for Green Bay Packers wide receivers Romeo Doubs and Juwann Winfree.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Rodgers gave a great in-depth answer about the young receivers and building a connection with them.
He also spoke about the need for the receivers lower on the depth chart to be able to play special teams.
Rodgers said there were some mental errors with some of the receivers on the roster, but it was to be expected. He said that’s why patience is needed.
He would then give a mention to Doubs and Winfree.
“The expectations need to be reasonable, but I will say, between 88 and 87, there’s been a lot of positive things that makes you feel good about the depth we can have in that room,” Rodgers said.
No. 88 is Winfree. No. 87 is Doubs.
Doubs is a rookie, selected in the fourth round this past April. He has made a dream start to training camp, making play after play on the practice field.
It won’t be a surprise if Doubs becomes a starter in the Packers’ offense this season. While there will be mistakes along the way as he adjusts to the NFL and builds chemistry with Rodgers, he can also make a number of plays for this offense.
Winfree has also impressed at practice. He did the same at Packers training camp a year ago, but an injury limited his opportunities to make an impact in the preseason.
If Winfree can stay healthy, he has a real opportunity to show why he deserves a roster spot in the next few weeks.
There are a lot of questions still to be answered at wide receiver. We haven’t even seen second-round pick Christian Watson yet this summer.
But it’s good to hear Rodgers’ positive comments about the Packers’ wide receiver depth, and Doubs and Winfree in particular.
