Packers claim wide receiver Travis Fulgham off waivers
Wide receiver Travis Fulgham is returning to the Green Bay Packers.
As the Packers continue to look for wide receiver talent, they have brought back Fulgham, who was with the team briefly in 2020.
According to Field Yates of ESPN, the Packers have claimed Fulgham off of waivers.
You may remember Fulgham from 2020. He was on the Packers’ roster at training camp but didn’t make the 53-man roster.
He would end up signing with the Philadelphia Eagles, where he quickly made Green Bay’s decision not to keep him look like a mistake. That season, Fulgham caught 38 passes for 539 yards and four touchdowns.
However, Fulgham didn’t make the Eagles’ 53-man roster last season and instead ended up spending time with the Miami Dolphins and Denver Broncos.
He remained with the Broncos until this week before being released.
Fulgham now gets another opportunity in Green Bay.
Earning a spot on the 53-man roster won’t be easy. For the six or seven spots available, Fulgham is currently behind Allen Lazard, Sammy Watkins, Randall Cobb, Romeo Doubs, Christian Watson, Amari Rodgers, Samori Toure, and Juwann Winfree.
It won’t be easy to overtake any of them before Green Bay trims its roster down to 53 players at the end of the month.
However, if he can get back to his 2020 best, who knows? Fulgham was a reliable receiver for the Eagles that season.
In all likelihood, Fulgham will just provide some depth at wide receiver for the upcoming preseason games. It will be difficult to land a spot on the roster in such a short space of time.
According to NFL Football Operations, teams must have their roster trimmed down to 80 players by August 23. The final deadline comes a week later on August 30, when every roster must be set at 53 players.
Even if Fulgham doesn’t make the Packers’ roster, a good preseason performance could help him find a new team.
