Packers: Vernon Scott, Danny Davis clear waivers, revert to IR
According to Aaron Wilson of Pro Football Network, safety Vernon Scott and wide receiver Danny Davis have cleared waivers, meaning they will revert to the Green Bay Packers‘ injured reserve list.
The Packers had waived both players on Tuesday.
So, what does this mean?
Both Scott and Davis went unclaimed on waivers. For now, they will go back to the Packers on the injured reserve list.
From here, there are a couple of potential scenarios. One is for the player to remain on injured reserve for the entire season. The other is the two sides agreeing to an injury settlement. This would allow the player to become a free agent and sign elsewhere immediately.
An injury settlement may be the most likely scenario for both players, allowing them to move on and find a new team.
Releasing Scott came as a surprise earlier this week. Before suffering a shoulder injury, Scott looked in contention for the number three safety job. He was competing with Shawn Davis for the spot.
Davis had made some plays during the preseason. In the opener against the San Francisco 49ers, Davis caught two passes for 45 yards, including a 33-yard touchdown.
More big decisions are ahead for the Packers in the coming days. Following tomorrow night’s preseason finale on the road against the Kansas City Chiefs, general manager Brian Gutekunst will need to determine which players make the 53-man roster.
Will Green Bay keep seven or eight wide receivers? How many safeties will the team keep on the initial 53?
The final preseason game will go a long way to determining which players make it to the initial 53.
The Packers will also need to work out whether Scott and Davis will remain on injured reserve or whether an injury settlement will be agreed upon in the near future.
