Packers final 53-man roster predictions following preseason
Running backs (3)
Aaron Jones, AJ Dillon, Tyler Goodson
Many believe the Packers could keep just two running backs, and it makes some sense. It would allow them to add depth elsewhere. They could then bring back one of their running backs to the practice squad and make room on the 53 later on if necessary.
However, Tyler Goodson’s preseason can’t be ignored.
In three preseason games, Goodson had 37 touches for 167 yards and one touchdown. His touchdown was a beautiful 24-yard rush, spinning past a defender on his way to the end zone.
After his impressive summer, Goodson deserves to make the 53.
Wide receivers (7)
Allen Lazard, Randall Cobb, Sammy Watkins, Romeo Doubs, Christian Watson, Amari Rodgers, Juwann Winfree
What a difficult decision this is. Cutting Samori Toure would be a bold call considering how well he has played in the preseason.
Ultimately, it came down to special teams for the final spot. That’s why Juwann Winfree gets the edge. Winfree also has more experience in the system, and Aaron Rodgers trusts him.
Here’s where the two running backs idea makes some sense. Effectively, I have Tyler Goodson making the roster ahead of Samori Toure. But you could argue Goodson has a better chance of clearing waivers than Toure.
That’s why it’s such a tough choice.
