Four players Packers must make room for on 53-man roster
The Green Bay Packers will finalize their 53-man roster in the coming days. Here are four players they must make room for.
It has been a long summer filled with practices and preseason games. It’s now decision time for the Green Bay Packers.
By Tuesday, the Packers must have their roster down to 53 players. Most of the roster is already set, but there are big decisions to be made on the bubble.
Finding room for every young player with potential isn’t possible, but let’s look at four players the Packers must keep on the initial 53-man roster.
Tyler Goodson
What more can Tyler Goodson do to earn a roster spot?
Many believe Green Bay could keep two running backs, knowing they could bring back either Goodson or Patrick Taylor to the practice squad in all likelihood.
But Goodson has shown great potential over the summer, both as a runner and in the receiving game.
His highlight of the preseason came on an electric 24-yard touchdown run versus the Kansas City Chiefs. He pulled off a spin move to beat the final defender before reaching the end zone.
What may hurt Goodson’s chances of making the roster are special teams. But Andy Herman of Packer Report put it perfectly, noting that Goodson can learn how to improve on special teams, but you can’t teach his ability to make explosive runs like the one we saw at Kansas City.
Goodson has showcased his talent and potential all summer long. He belongs on the Packers’ 53-man roster.
