Which players won’t be part of the Green Bay Packers’ initial 53-man roster?
Tuesday is one of the toughest days on the NFL calendar, as hundreds of players around the league are cut. The Green Bay Packers will need to trim their roster down to 53 players by today’s deadline.
In less than two weeks, Green Bay opens the regular season on the road against the division-rival Minnesota Vikings. There aren’t many tougher ways to start the year than at U.S. Bank Stadium against a rival team.
Before then, general manager Brian Gutekunst needs to trim the roster down to 53 players, then build the practice squad. That process continues on Tuesday. This afternoon, the team must have the roster set at 53.
The deadline today is at 3 p.m. CT. At this time, all NFL teams must have no more than 53 players on their active roster.
With so many transactions taking place throughout the day, it can be hard to keep track of.
Keep up to date with all of the Packers’ moves with our tracker. This will be updated following each roster move.
Green Bay Packers cut tracker for final 2022 53-man roster
EDGE Kobe Jones
#Packers released OLB Kobe Jones, per source.
— Ryan Wood (@ByRyanWood) August 30, 2022
Kobe Jones impressed this summer. A candidate for the practice squad.
K Ramiz Ahmed
Packers have released K Ramiz Ahmed, per source.

OL Caleb Jones
#Packers are cutting OT Caleb Jones, source said. Big risk. Will be interesting to see if he is claimed.
— Tom Silverstein (@TomSilverstein) August 30, 2022
The Packers are taking a risk here. It won’t be a surprise if Caleb Jones is claimed on waivers.
S Innis Gaines
#Packers safety Innis Gaines has been waived/injured, per source. Tough camp for Gaines, who strained his hamstring on Family Night, returned for preseason finale, then strained it again. If healthy, his versatility in the secondary would have given him a real shot at the 53.

EDGE La’Darius Hamilton
#Packers released OLB La'Darius Hamilton, per source. He was part of the fiercest position battle in camp on the edge.
— Ryan Wood (@ByRyanWood) August 30, 2022
CB Rico Gafford
Can confirm #Packers released CB Rico Gafford. An up-and-down camp for him. His big chance to make it was special teams. Would expect a decent chance he’ll be back on the practice squad. @BillHuberSI had it first.
— Ryan Wood (@ByRyanWood) August 30, 2022
S Shawn Davis
#Packers will not keep S Shawn Davis on the 53-man roster. May be an injury settlement. Had a very solid camp and would seem to be a good bet for PS. Means Tariq Carpenter has probably won a spot.
— Tom Silverstein (@TomSilverstein) August 30, 2022
This is a surprise. Davis looked set to be the number three safety after a strong summer.
RB Tyler Goodson
The #Packers are waiving RB Tyler Goodson, source said. Green Bay wants him back on practice squad but the rookie had a promising preseason and could be claimed.
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) August 30, 2022
A little surprising given how well Tyler Goodson played in the preseason. Hopefully he’ll clear waivers and sign to the practice squad. Goodson showed his ability this summer.
WR Juwann Winfree
Can confirm the #Packers have released WR Juwaan Winfree, according to source.
— Tom Silverstein (@TomSilverstein) August 30, 2022
Aaron Rodgers won’t be a fan of this one. A surprise. Perhaps good news for rookie Samori Toure.
DL Jack Heflin
Big surprise: #Packers are releasing DL Jack Heflin, according to a source. Means they're not keeping a lot of D-linemen or they're high on Chris Slayton. Heflin could get claimed on waivers somewhere.
— Tom Silverstein (@TomSilverstein) August 30, 2022
Despite dominating in the preseason, Jack Heflin doesn’t make the 53.
QB Danny Etling
Packers release QB Danny Etling, per source.
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) August 30, 2022
Despite impressing in the preseason, it’s no surprise that the Packers will keep two quarterbacks.
CB Kiondre Thomas
#Packers are releasing CB Kiondre Thomas, per source. He's a practice squad candidate.
— Ryan Wood (@ByRyanWood) August 30, 2022
This is somewhat surprising. Kiondre Thomas had an excellent preseason. He will hopefully return to the practice squad.
RB Dexter Williams
#Packers released RB Dexter Williams, per source. They brought their former sixth-round pick back for a second look midway through camp after he was released in final cuts last year.
— Ryan Wood (@ByRyanWood) August 30, 2022
DL Chris Slayton
Chris Slayton will not be taking Jack Heflin's spot on the 53. #Packers are releasing him, per source. Slayton had an eye-opening camp with his burst off the LOS in pass-rush game. He's a practice squad candidate.
— Ryan Wood (@ByRyanWood) August 30, 2022
WR Ishmael Hyman
I’m told the Packers released Ishmael Hyman.
— zach jacobson (@itszacharyj) August 30, 2022
TE Sal Cannella and DL Akial Byers
Two more #Packers released: TE Sal Cannella and DL Akial Byers. The Packers will waive Byers injured because he has a toe injury.
— Tom Silverstein (@TomSilverstein) August 30, 2022
CB Kabion Ento
#Packers are releasing CB Kabion Ento, per source. He’s been with the team since 2019, spending two of those seasons on the practice squad (he was IR in 2020). Wouldn’t expect him back on the practice squad.
— Ryan Wood (@ByRyanWood) August 30, 2022
S De’Vante Cross
#Packers released safety De'Vante Cross, per source.
— Ryan Wood (@ByRyanWood) August 30, 2022
And cutdown day has begun.
ILB Ty Summers
Green Bay announced on Sunday that inside linebacker Ty Summers had been released. Despite Summers being part of the roster the past three years and playing a significant role on special teams, this wasn’t a surprise.
The Packers’ top three at inside linebacker are set with De’Vondre Campbell, Quay Walker, and Krys Barnes. It didn’t seem likely that Summers would make the 53 ahead of second-year Isaiah McDuffie, who had a great preseason.
