Packers: Mason Crosby activated from PUP list, makes 53-man roster
Green Bay Packers kicker Mason Crosby has reportedly been activated from the physically unable to perform list and will be part of the initial 53-man roster.
It took until the final day to get our answer, but we now know that Mason Crosby is set to be ready for the regular season.
According to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the Green Bay Packers have released kicker Ramiz Ahmed and will activate Crosby from the PUP list.
Silverstein notes that Ahmed could be signed to the practice squad as cover in case Crosby suffers a setback and isn’t ready for the season opener.
Ahmed didn’t miss a kick in the preseason.
Crosby’s return is great news for the Packers, and it also means he is set to continue his incredible streak of not missing a game. Crosby has been in the NFL since 2007 and has played in 241 consecutive games in the regular season.
Crosby is coming off a tough 2021 season, but the hope is that the specials team unit will be improved under new coordinator Rich Bisaccia. Crosby should also benefit from new punter Pat O’Donnell holding on kicks. O’Donnell is an experienced player and has played in plenty of cold-weather games for the Chicago Bears.
More continuity in the field goal unit should help Crosby get back to his consistent best.
Had Crosby not been activated from the PUP list, he would’ve had to miss the Packers’ opening four games. Assuming he’s fully healthy, he can now return for the season opener against the Minnesota Vikings next week.
