How many new starters will Packers have in the 2022 season?
How many new starters will the Green Bay Packers have in 2022?
The Green Bay Packers retained many key starters this year, but there will be some new players in the starting lineup.
Davante Adams, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, and Lucas Patrick are among the players who moved on this offseason.
So, with the season opener just days away, let’s look at potential new starters for the Packers this season.
WR Sammy Watkins
With Adams and MVS gone, the Packers will turn to Allen Lazard, Randall Cobb, and new signing Sammy Watkins.
Rookies Romeo Doubs and Christian Watson could become starters down the line, but likely not in Week 1, barring injury.
Watkins has a huge opportunity to become a featured player in the Packers’ offense.
DL Jarran Reed
Jarran Reed wasn’t signed to provide depth — he is a starter. Reed has played in 89 career games in the NFL, 80 of which he started.
After an impressive summer, the former second-round pick is going to be an important part of the Packers’ defense, both against the run and as an interior pass rusher.
ILB Quay Walker
First-round pick Quay Walker wasted little time in showing what he can do in the preseason, and he will start next to All-Pro De’Vondre Campbell.
Green Bay hasn’t often started with two inside linebackers in recent years, but it finally has the players to do it.
Walker is going to have a huge role to play this season.
Other potential new starters
Either Doubs or Watson could become a starter at wide receiver this season, even if not in Week 1. Another player to watch is rookie offensive lineman Zach Tom, who dominated in the preseason and can play at any position along the line.
Depending on injuries, it’s not impossible that Tom could start Week 1 at Minnesota. Even if his first start doesn’t come this week, it shouldn’t be too long before he gets an opportunity.
