What did we learn from Packers’ unofficial depth chart for Week 1?
The Green Bay Packers have released their latest ‘unofficial’ depth chart ahead of their Week 1 matchup with the Minnesota Vikings. What are the top takeaways?
David Bakhtiari and Elgton Jenkins are ‘unofficially’ the Green Bay Packers‘ starting tackles this season.
As expected, Jenkins will line up at right tackle once he’s cleared to play. It remains unclear whether Jenkins will start in the season opener as he continues his recovery from a torn ACL. But once he’s back, right tackle appears to be where he’ll play.
Here is the full unofficial depth chart, according to Rob Demovsky of ESPN.
There aren’t many surprises on offense.
As expected, the starting trio at wide receiver are Allen Lazard, Sammy Watkins, and Randall Cobb. That’s how it will likely look in games until either Romeo Doubs or Christian Watson puts in consistent performances during the regular season.
It’s a similar story along the offensive line.
With Bakhtiari and Jenkins starting at tackle, the most likely scenario always seemed to be Jon Runyan Jr. and Royce Newman at guard with Josh Myers at center.
Rookie Zach Tom shouldn’t be far away from a starting job if he continues to play well when given an opportunity.
The starting defense also provides no surprises.
After a quiet training camp, first-round pick Devonte Wyatt is listed as a backup along the defensive line, with Kenny Clark, Jarran Reed, and Dean Lowry starting.
First-round pick Quay Walker is listed as a starter alongside De’Vondre Campbell at inside linebacker.
It’s only a depth chart, and an unofficial one, too. It doesn’t tell us everything about the 2022 Green Bay Packers, and it also wouldn’t be surprising if the Week 1 starting lineup is slightly different to the depth chart.
But it still gives us some indication of how things will look this year.
