Packers Week 1 injury report: Allen Lazard doesn’t practice
Oh, that wonderful feeling the Green Bay Packers know all too well. It’s Week 1 and just about the entire roster is on the injury report.
OK, that’s a slight exaggeration. However, the Packers enter their season opener with 11 players on the injury report, compared to just one for the Minnesota Vikings.
It’s not all bad news, though.
Of those 11 players, only one didn’t practice on Wednesday: wide receiver Allen Lazard.
Lazard is dealing with an ankle injury and it’s unclear how likely it is that he will be available for Sunday’s game at Minnesota. Lazard is set to be Green Bay’s WR1 this season with Davante Adams gone, so the Packers will miss him if he’s unavailable.
Six players on the injury report were full participants at Wednesday’s practice, giving them all a good shot of being available.
Those six players were kicker Mason Crosby (knee), linebacker Tipa Galeai (elbow), center Jake Hanson (shoulder), safety Dallin Leavitt (shoulder), tackle Yosh Nijman (knee), and wide receiver Christian Watson (knee).
Some more encouraging news is that starting tackles David Bakhtiari (knee) and Elgton Jenkins (pectoral/knee) practiced. They were limited participants on Wednesday, per the injury report.
It would give the offensive line a huge boost if they were available against the Vikings, especially with a matchup against pass rushers Danielle Hunter and Za’Darius Smith coming up.
Tight end Robert Tonyan, who is working his way back from a torn ACL, was a limited participant. Again, it’s a good sign that he practiced.
Safety Darnell Savage, who missed time at training camp due to a hamstring injury, was also limited at practice.
A lot can change in the coming days, but it’s encouraging to see that the majority of the players on the injury report practiced on Wednesday, even if they were only limited.
