Green Bay Packers cornerback Keisean Nixon reportedly avoided a significant injury in the season opener against the Minnesota Vikings.

Green Bay Packers cornerback Keisean Nixon only played one snap on defense in Week 1, but it was a good one.

The Minnesota Vikings were facing third-and-six from their own 40-yard line. Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins found wide receiver K.J. Osborn, who had room to run and looked set to pick up a first down.

However, Nixon reacted quickly to close the space and made an impressive tackle, stopping Osborn two yards short of a first.

Unfortunately, Nixon injured his shoulder on the play and had to exit the game. But there is some positive news about his injury.

Packers: Keisean Nixon reportedly avoids major injury

According to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Nixon “didn’t suffer anything serious” and shouldn’t miss much time.

That’s great news, as Nixon is an important player for the Packers this season.

On Sunday, he was the backup cornerback behind starters Jaire Alexander, Eric Stokes, and Rasul Douglas. Shemar Jean-Charles was inactive for the game.

He showed he can help the defense with the play he made to save a first down, and he is also one of the team’s main special teams players.

According to Pro Football Reference, Nixon played on 57 percent of the Packers’ special teams snaps against the Vikings. That number likely would’ve been higher had he not exited the game due to injury.

For now, it’s unclear whether Nixon has a chance to return this weekend against the Chicago Bears. Green Bay will release its first injury report for Week 2 on Wednesday, so we will get an update then.

But even if Nixon is unavailable to play the Bears, it’s good news that he hasn’t suffered a major injury and shouldn’t miss much time.
