Predicting Packers’ regular season leaders after Week 1
Now that we’ve had the benefit of watching the Green Bay Packers‘ regular season opener, it’s time to make some updated predictions for the team’s leaders in rushing, receiving, and the key defensive stats.
The Packers disappointed in their opener against the Minnesota Vikings, scoring just seven points on offense and having no answer for Justin Jefferson on defense.
But it’s a long season and there is a lot of football to be played.
In this article, I’ll make my updated predictions for the Packers’ 2022 leaders in rushing, receiving, and defense. We won’t include passing stats as it’s clear Aaron Rodgers will lead those categories.
Let’s start with the running backs.
Rushing
Rushing yards: AJ Dillon
AJ Dillon led the Packers in rushing yards last season, and he had twice as many carries as Aaron Jones against the Vikings.
It will likely be a split between the two over the course of the year, but Green Bay may need Jones more in the receiving game, with Dillon getting more rushing opportunities.
Rushing touchdowns: Dillon
Dillon is powerful and excellent at punching it in on the goal line. That should lead to plenty of scoring opportunities, which is why he’s my pick to lead the Packers in rushing touchdowns.
He’s currently got one, scoring Green Bay’s only touchdown of the game at Minnesota.
