Packers: Aaron Rodgers cuts right into the harsh reality of Amari Rodgers
Aaron Rodgers gave an honest answer when asked about Amari Rodgers’ role in the Green Bay Packers’ offense.
It’s fair to say that Amari Rodgers hasn’t made the impact the Green Bay Packers would’ve hoped when they drafted him in the third round a year ago.
Rodgers only caught four passes in his rookie season and, despite all of the uncertainty at wide receiver and Allen Lazard being out, he didn’t play a single offensive snap in Week 1, per Pro Football Reference.
Aaron Rodgers was asked about Amari Rodgers’ role on offense and, well, his answer wasn’t exactly full of praise for the second-year wide receiver.
Packers: Aaron Rodgers gives honest answer on Amari Rodgers’ role
Here’s what Rodgers had to say, according to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic.
Well, he’s not wrong.
But that’s hardly the most encouraging answer for Amari Rodgers. It’s not exactly a ringing endorsement.
Aaron Rodgers has publicly praised wide receivers in the past like Romeo Doubs, Juwann Winfree, and Jake Kumerow. He had an opportunity to do the same here.
Currently, Amari Rodgers’ role is limited to special teams, where he returns punts and kicks. He struggled in this part of the game last season.
The Packers will be hoping Rodgers can make a second-year jump and end their curse on third-round picks.
Since Green Bay drafted Morgan Burnett in the third round back in 2010, here is a list of their third-round picks since: Alex Green, Khyri Thornton, Richard Rodgers, Ty Montgomery, Kyler Fackrell, Montravius Adams, Oren Burks, Jace Sternberger, Josiah Deguara, Amari Rodgers, and Sean Rhyan.
Yikes.
Amari Rodgers may still yet end the team’s third-round curse and become the player the Packers hoped they were getting. But we haven’t seen it yet.
Aaron Rodgers’ answer was straight to the point and honest.
