Packers’ pass defense unstoppable

Green Bay’s defense made a slow start. Chicago moved the ball with ease on the opening possession before finding the end zone. But after the Bears’ seven-play, 71-yard touchdown drive to begin the game, the Packers’ defense dominated.

According to Ryan Wood of the Green Bay Press-Gazette, Matt LaFleur said the Packers had “serious headset issues” during the opening defensive series. Considering how well the defense played after this drive, it makes total sense.

The Bears were limited to just 71 yards passing with zero touchdowns and one interception. No Bears receiver had more than two catches.

Led by Preston Smith, Green Bay’s pass rush dominated, making three sacks and five quarterback hits.

Along with Smith, Rashan Gary also impressed with two tackles, one sack, two tackles for loss, and one quarterback hit. Kenny Clark also had a quarterback hit.

The Bears didn’t pass often, in part because they found success on the ground. However, when Justin Fields did drop back to pass, the Packers were dominant — Fields had a passer rating of just 43.8.

The Packers’ defense still hasn’t reached its full potential, but they showed how strong they can be against the pass on Sunday night. Chicago could get nothing going through the air.
