WR Chase Claypool

The Pittsburgh Steelers are 1-1 after two weeks, but with games coming up against the Cleveland Browns, Buffalo Bills, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Miami Dolphins, they may fall out of playoff contention well before the trade deadline.

Pittsburgh gave Diontae Johnson a contract extension this offseason and drafted George Pickens and Calvin Austin III in April. Perhaps this could open the door for a Chase Claypool trade.

Claypool is in the final two seasons of his rookie deal. He will enter a contract year in 2023.

In his first two seasons, Claypool showed the potential to become an excellent receiver.

As a rookie, Claypool caught 62 passes for 873 yards and nine touchdowns, averaging 14.1 yards per reception. In 2021, he made 59 receptions for 860 yards and two scores, averaging 14.6 yards per catch.

Claypool checks a lot of boxes for what the Packers look for at wide receiver. He has size, speed, and athleticism. Claypool is 6-foot-4, 238 pounds, and earned a Relative Athletic Score of 9.98 out of 10 ahead of the 2020 NFL Draft.

He is a great deep threat and a solid run-blocker. There’s a lot to like about his game and how he would fit in the Packers’ offense.

Playing with Aaron Rodgers could help take his game to the next level. He hasn’t been helped with his quarterback play over the past year or so.

With the moves the Steelers have made at wide receiver, maybe they would be open to trading Claypool before the deadline. He could be a great addition to the Packers’ offense.
