3 things the Packers must fix entering Week 3 vs. Buccaneers
3. Packers must give Romeo Doubs more opportunities
Romeo Doubs made play after play during the summer, but he has only had a limited role in the opening two regular season games.
According to Pro Football Reference, Doubs has played on 46.51 percent of the Packers’ offensive snaps this season, fewer than Sammy Watkins and Christian Watson. He has only played five more snaps than Allen Lazard, who didn’t play in Week 1.
We’ve seen glimpses of Doubs’ ability, most notably on a screen pass he took 20 yards against the Bears.
Doubs needs more opportunities as it’s clear he has a ton of talent.
“That guy’s electric with the ball in his hands,” Matt LaFleur said. “We’ve got to continue to try to find ways to get him the football. He’s a young player, but he is dynamic.”
It’s not like he isn’t getting open. Quite the opposite.
According to NFL Next Gen Stats, Doubs is averaging 4.7 yards of separation, which ranks 10th in the NFL after two games.
It’s just a matter of getting on the same page as Aaron Rodgers and the Packers finding ways to get him the football.
He showed off his yards-after-catch ability against the Bears, but Doubs is also an excellent deep threat and is dominant at winning contested catches.
As a young player, there will be mistakes along the way. But Doubs has so much to offer the Packers’ offense and they need to find ways to increase his role.
