Packers offense makes fast start, but disappoints overall

You can be forgiven if the Packers’ offense caused some flashbacks to January’s playoff exit. It was almost a mirror of that performance.

Green Bay flew out of the gates, putting together a 10-play, 75-yard touchdown drive to kick things off. They followed it up with a 12-play, 71-yard touchdown drive, making it look all too easy against a talented Buccaneers defense.

However, much like against the San Francisco 49ers last January, a costly fumble proved to be the turning point.

In January, it was a rare Marcedes Lewis fumble. On Sunday, Aaron Jones couldn’t keep hold of the football on what would have at worst been a fourth-and-goal. The Packers had a chance to go up 21-3 before halftime, but Jones’ fumble was a costly one.

Green Bay wouldn’t score another point the rest of the way.

The Bucs’ defense adjusted after the Packers’ fast start, and Green Bay had no answers.

Yes, they were playing against a great defense. Yes, they were without Sammy Watkins and Christian Watson. But the Packers need to be more consistent on offense.

Yet again, they got away from the ground game with 24 rushing attempts compared to 35 passes, despite leading for the majority of the contest.

The opening two drives showed the offense’s potential, but a lot of work still needs to be done.
