Packers: Randall Cobb likely to play, Christian Watson likely out
The Green Bay Packers are reportedly to be without wide receiver Christian Watson in Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The focus has been on the wide receivers ahead of the Green Bay Packers‘ road game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this week. Both teams are hit with injuries at the position.
Sammy Watkins has already been ruled out and is on injured reserve, but it now appears the Packers will be without rookie Christian Watson in Week 3.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Watson is unlikely to play this afternoon due to a hamstring injury, although veteran Randall Cobb is likely to play.
Cobb has missed practice this week due to an illness.
With Green Bay likely to be without both Watkins and Watson, the offense loses two of its fastest wide receivers. It takes away some possibilities to hurt the Buccaneers’ defense deep.
Assuming Watson is indeed inactive, it could lead to an increase in snaps for fourth-round pick Romeo Doubs.
It provides a huge opportunity for Doubs to have a breakout performance. And it’s definitely possible. Doubs dominated throughout the summer, even when matched up against the Packers’ starting secondary. He will be a player to watch today.
Allen Lazard should also be in line for a large share of the targets, while Robert Tonyan could have an important role to play.
So, what about the Buccaneers’ injuries at wide receiver?
We already knew they would be without Mike Evans, not due to injury, but because he is suspended this week. Chris Godwin has also been ruled out due to injury.
It looks like the Bucs will also be without Julio Jones.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Bucs receivers Russell Gage and Breshad Perriman are expected to play, but there’s “less optimism” for Jones, who is dealing with a knee injury.
