6 biggest takeaways from Packers’ overtime win vs. Patriots in Week 4
The ups and downs of Romeo Doubs
Romeo Doubs continues to make plays, and he also continues to make mistakes.
It’s clear the rookie wide receiver has a ton of potential and Green Bay needs to keep giving him opportunities. He offers so much to the offense and will only improve as he gains experience.
However, a part of that is accepting there will be mistakes along the way.
Doubs fumbled on the Packers’ second offensive snap of the game after making a one-yard gain. But he made amends, catching a 13-yard touchdown late in the fourth quarter to tie the game and force overtime.
And the fourth-round pick almost won it. Doubs did the hard part, getting open deep downfield. He then caught a 40-yard pass from Rodgers and looked to have made a spectacular play to win the game. However, as Doubs hit the ground, he couldn’t maintain possession and it was ruled incomplete.
An unfortunate moment, but it’s a play Doubs needed to make.
Still, Rodgers looked Doubs’ way twice in overtime, connecting on gains of eight and nine yards in consecutive plays. It helped set the Packers up in comfortable field goal range.
Doubs finished the day with five catches for 47 yards and a score. He contributed to the win. But had it not been for a couple of mistakes, it could’ve been a huge performance for the rookie.
