With the 2022 NFL trade deadline nearing, here are three potential targets for the Green Bay Packers.

The Green Bay Packers could, and should, still add talent to the roster wherever possible.

One way to do this is via trades. The deadline is coming up in only a few weeks on November 1, so time is running out to strike a deal with another team.

This time of year, we’re beginning to see teams effectively fall out of playoff contention. One eye could quickly turn to the future for those franchises, potentially opening the door for trades as they look to add draft picks.

With the deadline nearing, here are three trade candidates for the Packers.

EDGE Brian Burns, Carolina Panthers

While the Carolina Panthers might be reluctant to move on from their star pass rusher, it doesn’t make it impossible.

Brian Burns has a cap hit of only $4.31 million this season. It jumps up to $16.01 million next year, according to Over The Cap. But that’s it — Burns will be a free agent following the 2023 season.

Unless the Panthers plan to use the franchise tag or can work out an extension, they risk losing him for nothing in the future.

For the Packers, it would make a ton of sense. It could be a championship-winning trade.

A Pro Bowler last season, Burns is a star pass rusher. He has 29.5 sacks in a little over three seasons, and already has four in the opening five games in 2022, along with six quarterback hits.

Green Bay has an excellent starting duo in Rashan Gary and Preston Smith, but the backup edge rushers have offered little so far this season.

Add in Burns, and the Packers would have one of the league’s most dominant edge-rush trios in football.
