Good Stat, Bad Stat: Numbers from the Packers’ loss to Giants
By Jerry Tapp
A look at the good and bad stats from the Green Bay Packers’ loss to the New York Giants.
The Green Bay Packers saw their record drop to 3-2 with a 27-22 loss to the New York Giants on Sunday in London.
Here are a few stats (good and bad) that helped define the contest.
Good Stat: Aaron Rodgers had two TD passes and no interceptions. It was the 100th regular season game of his career with two or more TD passes and no interceptions in a game.
He ranks second all-time behind Tom Brady, who has 120 such games. The Packers are now 86-14 in games when Rodgers has two or more TD passes and no picks in a contest.
Bad Stat: The Giants scored in each of the four quarters in the game. The Patriots also scored points in each quarter last week. Green Bay has given up points in 10 straight quarters. Opponents have scored in 17 of the 20 quarters this season against the Packers; the Pack has scored in 12 of their 20 quarters.
Good Stat: Marcedes Lewis became the 24th player in NFL history to score a TD at age 38 or older. The only other Packer to score a TD at age 38 or older is Zeke Bratkowski. He scored a TD on October 10, 1971 (51 years to the date from Lewis’ TD) at the age of 39 years-355 days.
Bad Stat: The Packers scored only two points in the second half and allowed the Giants to score 17. Green Bay is plus-18 in first-half points this season (scored 65 and allowed 47) but they are minus-20 in the second-half points (29 points scored, 49 allowed).
Good Stat: Randall Cobb had seven receptions for 99 yards on 13 targets. The 13 targets are the most in his career since he was targeted 14 times in a game versus the Panthers on December 17, 2017.
The seven catches were the most in almost three years, and the 99 yards were the most since he had 115 yards receiving in a November 17, 2019, game versus the Lions. Cobb has had seven games in his career where he had between 95-99 yards in a game.
Bad Stat: For the second time this season, the Packers scored less than three points in the second half. The last time they scored less than three points in the second half twice in a season was in 2017 when it happened three times. Prior to that it was in 2007 when they scored less than three points in the second half twice that season.
Good Stat: Mason Crosby had eight points in the game with two field goals and a pair of PATs. It was the 114th time in his career that he had eight or more points scored in a regular season game. That places him in a tie for ninth place all-time on the NFL list in this category. Adam Vinatieri tops the list with 169 games where he scored eight or more points.
Bad Stat: Green Bay had only 20 rushing attempts in the game. They have now lost eight of their last 10 games when they have 20 or fewer rushing attempts in a game. Since 2008, the year Aaron Rodgers took over as starting QB, the Pack is 10-40 in games when they have 20 or fewer rushing attempts in a game.
Good Stat: Green Bay is 3-2 for the sixth time since 2008. In the previous five years since 2008 when they started 3-2, the team made the playoffs and after going 3-2 to start the 2010 season, the team won the Super Bowl.
Bad Stat: The Green Bay defense did not have any takeaways in the game. Since 2015, the Pack is 6-25 (.194 winning percentage) when they do not force a turnover in a game.
Good Stat: Green Bay did not have a turnover in the game. They top the NFL with the most games with no turnovers since the start of the 2020 season with 20. They are 18-2 in those games.
Bad Stat: The Packers held a 20-10 halftime lead in the game. Prior to this game, the Packers were 57-3-1 since 2008 when they had a lead of 10 points or more at halftime. The last time they lost a 10-point or more lead at halftime was on November 22, 2020, when they lost a 14-point halftime lead in Indianapolis to the Colts and lost the game in overtime 34-31.
